Snapchat has officially introduced “AI Sponsored Snaps,” a new advertising format that allows users to interact directly with brand-managed AI agents within the app’s Chat tab. Announced this Tuesday, the update transforms traditional static advertisements into dynamic, conversational experiences where users can ask questions, seek product recommendations, and engage in real-time dialogue.

Transforming Advertising into Dialogue

Previously, Sponsored Snaps functioned as passive placements within the user’s interface. By integrating AI agents, Snapchat aims to make advertising feel native to the platform’s social environment. Ajit Mohan, Chief Business Officer at Snap, emphasized that conversation is becoming the most valuable real estate in the digital advertising landscape.

“AI is accelerating that shift, turning chat into the place where people discover products, ask questions, and make decisions in real time,” Mohan stated. The goal is to design formats that align with how users already communicate, rather than forcing traditional ad interruptions.

Data-Driven Engagement

Snapchat is betting on high user adoption rates to drive this transition. According to the company, over half a billion users have interacted with its native AI chatbot since its 2023 launch. The platform also reports that 85% of its user base engages regularly in the Chat feed, with over 950 billion chats sent in Q1 2026 alone.

For brands, this provides a direct gateway to Snapchat’s nearly one billion monthly active users. Early internal metrics for standard Sponsored Snaps indicate a 22% increase in conversions and a 20% reduction in cost per action, a baseline the company expects to improve upon through personalized AI-powered interactions.

Market Context and User Experience

While the move represents a significant opportunity for advertisers to reach demographics like the 57% of teen Snapchat users who message daily, it also broadens the scope of AI integration within the app. Critics may point to the increased presence of automated agents as a potential friction point, yet Snap maintains that its community is already demonstrating a strong appetite for AI-driven conversations.

This new advertising architecture is designed to allow brands to deploy their own AI agents, facilitating a more personalized funnel that moves users from discovery to decision-making without ever leaving the chat interface.
