Google has unveiled a major update to its Vids video creation app, introducing advanced AI-driven avatar direction, integration with the Veo 3.1 model, and streamlined YouTube publishing. These features, announced this Thursday, aim to enhance enterprise-grade content production by allowing users to command avatars using natural language prompts.
Command Your Avatars with Text Prompts
The core of this update is the new ability to direct avatars through descriptive text. Users can now instruct virtual characters to interact with specific props, products, or equipment within a scene. Despite the increased complexity of these dynamic movements, Google claims the system maintains high character consistency throughout the video.

Beyond movement, the platform allows for granular customization. By utilizing prompts, creators can modify character appearances, swap apparel, and generate entirely new backgrounds to suit the theme of their project.
Veo 3.1 and Enhanced Creative Tools
Google is doubling down on AI-assisted generation by bringing its Veo 3.1 model to Vids. This integration enables users to generate eight-second video clips directly within the editor. Pricing tiers are set by account type: standard users receive 10 free generations per month, while Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra subscribers are granted a capacity of up to 1,000 videos monthly.
This follows last month’s addition of the Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro music models, which provided users with sophisticated tools for generating soundtracks and sound effects. To complement these creation tools, Google has also introduced a new Chrome extension for screen recording, allowing users to capture both audio and video directly into their workflow.
Streamlined YouTube Integration
Efficiency is a clear focus for this rollout, as Google has added a direct export feature to YouTube. This eliminates the manual process of downloading files and re-uploading them to a channel. For safety and quality control, all exported content is set to private by default, ensuring creators can review their work before hitting publish.
Expanding the Vids Ecosystem
Since its 2024 debut, Google has aggressively expanded Vids to compete with AI video platforms like HeyGen, Synthesia, D-ID, and Lemon Slice. The platform has evolved from a basic editor to a comprehensive suite that now includes:
- 2D and 3D cartoon-style avatars.
- Support for seven additional voice-over languages, including French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese.
- Enterprise-focused collaboration and content creation workflows.
