Google has officially expanded its “Live Translate” feature to iOS devices and a broader range of international markets. The AI-driven tool, which provides real-time audio translations directly through headphones, is now accessible to users across the U.S., Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the U.K., Japan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Thailand, Mexico, and India.
Transforming Headphones Into Personal Translators
Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, this technology functions as a one-way, real-time translation bridge. Unlike traditional automated voices, the system is designed to preserve the speaker’s original tone, cadence, and emphasis, ensuring a more natural listening experience. The feature currently supports over 70 languages and is compatible with any pair of headphones.
Google suggests the tool is ideal for navigating complex social or travel scenarios, such as keeping up with dinner conversations in foreign languages or clearly understanding public transit announcements while traveling abroad.
How to Access Live Translate
To start using the feature, users simply need to open the Google Translate app, select the “Live Translate” option, and connect their preferred headphones. Previously restricted to Android users in limited regions, this rollout significantly lowers the barrier for international communication.
Broader AI Expansion: Search Live Goes Global
The update coincides with the global expansion of “Search Live,” Google’s conversational AI search tool. Originally launched in July 2025 for users in the U.S. and India, the feature is now rolling out to over 200 countries and territories. Search Live enables users to point their smartphone cameras at objects to receive real-time, context-aware assistance.
To access Search Live, users can open the Google app on either Android or iOS and tap the “Live” icon located beneath the search bar. This dual-feature expansion marks a significant push by Google to integrate Gemini-powered AI into daily, real-world interactions.
