Google officially announced on Thursday the global expansion of Search Live, its AI-powered conversational search feature. The tool is now available in more than 200 countries and territories, supporting all languages and locations where AI Mode is accessible.
Real-Time Visual Search Powered by Gemini
Originally introduced in July 2025, Search Live transforms how users interact with their environment. By pointing a smartphone camera at physical objects, users receive real-time assistance through a fluid, back-and-forth dialogue informed by the camera’s visual feed. Previously restricted to the U.S. and India, the feature now reaches a massive international audience.
This expansion is powered by Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, Google’s latest audio and voice model. The tech giant claims this update significantly enhances the natural and intuitive quality of conversations, making AI interactions feel more human-like.
How to Access Search Live
To engage with the feature, users simply need to open the Google app on Android or iOS and tap the Live icon located directly beneath the search bar. Once activated, users can ask questions verbally and receive audio responses. The interface also supports follow-up questions and provides web links for those seeking more comprehensive information.
“Search Live is designed for those moments when you need real-time help, and typing out a query just won’t cut it,” Google stated in a formal announcement. For instance, if a user needs guidance on installing furniture, they can enable their camera to provide visual context, allowing Search to offer specific suggestions and relevant web resources.
Additionally, users already utilizing Google Lens can transition seamlessly into a conversation by tapping the “Live” button at the bottom of the viewfinder.
Live Translate Comes to iOS
Alongside the Search Live rollout, Google is expanding its Live Translate feature to iOS devices. This functionality enables real-time audio translation directly through headphones.
The feature is currently expanding to several key markets, including:
- Germany, Spain, and France
- Nigeria and the United Kingdom
- Japan, Bangladesh, and Thailand
With this update, users across both Android and iOS platforms can now access real-time translations in more than 70 languages using any pair of headphones.
