WhatsApp is officially rolling out a major update featuring AI-driven message drafting, enhanced photo editing tools, and improved storage management. These features, announced by Meta on Thursday, aim to streamline user productivity and simplify media organization directly within the messaging interface.

AI-Powered Writing Assistance

The most significant addition is the evolution of the “Writing Help” feature. Initially launched last August to assist with proofreading and tone adjustments, the tool now suggests AI-generated replies based on the context of your ongoing conversations. Meta aims to keep users within the WhatsApp ecosystem, reducing the need to rely on external tools like ChatGPT for drafting messages.

For those concerned about privacy, the company confirms that chats remain encrypted and private even when utilizing these AI drafting capabilities. To access the tool, users simply tap the chat bar, select the stickers icon, and choose the pencil icon featuring the sparkledust symbol.

Smart Storage and Media Editing

Managing device storage is now more intuitive. WhatsApp has introduced a feature that allows users to identify and delete large files within specific chats. This granular control means you can purge bulky media files while keeping your essential text history intact, eliminating the need to delete entire conversations to free up space.

Furthermore, Meta AI is now integrated into the chat interface for image editing. Users can perform quick touch-ups on photos, such as removing distracting elements, modifying backgrounds, or applying new stylistic filters, without leaving the app.

Enhanced Platform Versatility

The update also addresses long-standing user requests regarding account management and cross-platform flexibility:

  • Dual Accounts: iOS users can now log into two WhatsApp accounts simultaneously, mirroring functionality previously exclusive to Android.
  • Migration: Improved support for moving chat histories between iOS and Android devices, as well as between devices on the same platform.
  • Smart Stickers: The app now suggests context-aware stickers as you type emojis, allowing for quick, expressive replacements.

These features are currently in the rollout phase and will be available to the global user base in the coming days.
