Music discovery platform Musicboard is facing an existential crisis. Following months of persistent service outages, website failures, and the sudden disappearance of its Android application from the Google Play Store, the app’s dedicated user base is demanding answers regarding the service’s future.

A Community Left in the Dark

With approximately 462,000 total downloads according to data from Appfigures, Musicboard has cultivated a loyal, if niche, following. However, the lack of official communication from the developers has fueled widespread anxiety. Users have turned to Reddit to coordinate, share potential alternatives, and seek ways to export their personal data before the platform potentially vanishes for good.

In response to the radio silence, a group of volunteers led by user Lavarini has launched an unofficial “Help Save Musicboard” initiative. This grassroots effort aims to foster discussion regarding the long-term sustainability of the independent app and maintain pressure on the developers to provide clarity.

Developer Response vs. Reality

When contacted for comment, the Musicboard team provided a brief statement dismissing the technical failures as “temporary downtime.” The company insisted that the application is not shutting down, citing ongoing efforts with the Google Play team to restore the Android app and promising that any future closure would be handled with “a respectful timeline for the users.”

Despite these assurances, follow-up inquiries regarding the long-term stability of the platform have gone unanswered. The skepticism is further compounded by the recent activity of founders Johannes Vermandois and Erik Heimer. The duo has been heavily involved in other ventures, such as their AI app, Frank AI, and the AI therapist app Helm. Notably, a planned acquisition of Frank AI by Freedom Holdings, Inc. was terminated in September 2024.

The Current Status

The divide between the developers’ claims and the user experience remains stark. While the team maintains that the service is active, the community continues to face accessibility hurdles that suggest deeper operational issues.

Update: The Musicboard app’s servers experienced a fresh outage on Monday, February 9, 2026, and remain inaccessible as of February 11, 2026.
