CONTEUDO:

TikTok is rolling out a new feature that grants users direct control over the amount of AI-generated content (AIGC) appearing in their “For You” feed. This update, part of the platform’s “Manage Topics” suite, allows users to customize their viewing experience by adjusting a slider to favor or limit AI-created videos.

Customizing Your Feed Experience

The AIGC control functions similarly to existing filters for categories like “Sports” or “Food & Drinks.” By navigating to Settings > Content Preferences > Manage Topics, users can now fine-tune their feed preferences. According to TikTok’s official announcement, this tool is designed to help users tailor the diversity of their content rather than implementing a total ban on AI media.

This development arrives as the social media landscape shifts toward AI-centric experiences. Competitors such as Meta have introduced dedicated AI feeds like “Vibes,” while platforms like OpenAI’s Sora have streamlined the creation and distribution of high-fidelity synthetic videos. As AI-generated visuals for historical reenactments and celebrity news become increasingly common, TikTok aims to keep users in control of their digital environment.

Advanced Detection: The Rise of Invisible Watermarks

Beyond user controls, TikTok is bolstering its technical defenses against unlabelled AI content. The platform is currently testing “invisible watermarking” to ensure AI media remains identifiable even if standard metadata is stripped during re-uploads or external editing.

While TikTok currently utilizes Content Credentials via the C2PA standard to embed AI metadata, these labels are often lost when content moves across platforms. The new invisible watermark acts as a proprietary, machine-readable layer that TikTok can detect, regardless of how the file has been manipulated.

These watermarks will be applied to:

  • Content created using TikTok’s native AI Editor Pro tools.
  • Media uploaded with pre-existing C2PA Content Credentials.

Promoting AI Literacy

Complementing these technical safeguards, TikTok has announced a $2 million AI literacy fund. This initiative will support organizations such as Girls Who Code, tasking them with developing educational content focused on AI safety and media literacy for the broader TikTok community. The new features and controls are expected to reach all users in the coming weeks.
