PayPal and Venmo users can now bypass the waitlist for Comet, Perplexity’s highly sought-after AI-powered web browser. In a strategic partnership announced Wednesday, PayPal is granting its U.S. and select international customers early access to the browser alongside a complimentary one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro—a premium service typically valued at $200.

What is Comet?
Launched in July, Comet is positioning itself as a direct challenger to established browsers like Chrome. It integrates a sophisticated AI assistant capable of generating real-time summaries of search results, conducting detailed product comparisons, and streamlining web navigation through generative AI. Previously, access was restricted to the company’s high-tier $200-per-month Max subscribers and a limited group of invitees.
Strategic Synergy: PayPal and Perplexity
This collaboration builds upon an existing relationship between the two firms. Earlier this summer, they integrated “agentic commerce” into Perplexity’s platform, enabling users to leverage PayPal or Venmo for instant checkouts when the AI assists with travel bookings, ticket purchases, or product acquisitions.
For PayPal, the initiative serves a dual purpose: driving user engagement within its apps and promoting its new subscriptions hub. This feature acts as a centralized dashboard where users can monitor and manage all their recurring payments. To incentivize adoption, PayPal is also running a promotion offering $50 to customers who link and pay for at least three subscriptions through the service.
How to Claim Your Access
Eligible users can access the offer directly within their PayPal or Venmo applications. Key details regarding the promotion include:
- Eligibility: The offer is limited to one invite per PayPal account and is not available to existing Perplexity Pro subscribers.
- Global Rollout: While available to U.S. customers immediately, the offer is expanding to specific international markets throughout the month.
- Validity: The promotion remains active through the end of 2025.
Upon registration for the Perplexity Pro subscription, users will receive instructions to download and install the Comet browser. Diego Scotti, general manager of the Consumer Group at PayPal, noted that the partnership reflects a commitment to delivering tools that simplify financial management while providing high-demand technological rewards.
For Perplexity, the deal provides massive exposure to millions of potential users, potentially capturing market share in the competitive AI browser space and converting free users into long-term paid subscribers once the 12-month promotional period concludes.
