Meta officially launched advanced video editing capabilities for its Meta AI platform this Wednesday, enabling users to transform short-form content through AI-driven preset prompts. This strategic move allows creators to modify costumes, environments, and visual styles, directly positioning Meta as a primary competitor against generative video rivals like Google and specialized platforms such as Captions.

Expanding AI Capabilities Across Meta Ecosystem

The new editing suite is currently rolling out to the Meta AI app, the Meta.ai website, and “Edits,” the company’s direct challenger to CapCut. While Meta confirmed that the technology draws inspiration from its sophisticated Movie Gen AI models, the company has not explicitly detailed whether those specific models serve as the underlying engine for these new features.

How the New Video Presets Work

At launch, users have access to 50 distinct presets designed to modify 10-second video clips. These tools were developed based on direct feedback from content creators to ensure seamless integration within the Edits app. The official announcement highlights the versatility of these presets, which include:

  • Visual Stylization: Applying a “vintage comic book” aesthetic to footage.
  • Environmental Shifts: Altering lighting conditions to simulate a rainy day.
  • Subject Transformation: Changing a person’s outfit to themes like a space cadet suit.

Seamless Social Integration

Meta has streamlined the workflow for creators by allowing edited videos to be shared directly to Facebook and Instagram from within the Meta AI and Edits applications. By embedding these features across its ecosystem, Meta aims to incentivize creators to utilize native tools rather than relying on third-party software for post-production.

Future Roadmap

While the current release focuses on preset-based editing, Meta confirmed plans to introduce deeper customization options later this year. The company emphasizes that these tools are designed to lower the barrier for creative experimentation, helping users reimagine personal memories or produce engaging content for their social audiences with minimal technical effort.
