PayPal is expanding its utility by integrating hotel booking directly into its mobile application through a strategic partnership with payment provider Selfbook. This move allows users to search for, select, and book accommodations without leaving the PayPal ecosystem, marking a significant step in the company’s effort to become an all-in-one travel commerce platform.

Seamless Travel Bookings Within PayPal

The new functionality is accessible via the “Offers” section of the PayPal app. Users can utilize an in-app browser to search for properties, applying filters such as travel dates and guest counts. Beyond the convenience of booking, the integration provides exclusive discounts and the option to utilize PayPal’s “Buy Now, Pay Later” (BNPL) service for participating hotels.

Data-Driven Travel Expansion

PayPal’s decision to integrate travel services is backed by strong internal metrics. The company reports an 84% increase in transaction volume among users who utilize PayPal for online travel purchases. By bringing the booking experience in-house, PayPal aims to capitalize on this growth and increase user engagement within its app.

“We’re excited to go big in travel with Selfbook and help PayPal customers discover new merchants and save money through unique rewards and discounts,” said Alex Chriss, President and CEO of PayPal.

The Selfbook Integration Strategy

While the initial rollout features hotels using Selfbook’s payment suite, the scope of the full catalog remains to be clarified. Beyond the consumer-facing app, the collaboration extends to the enterprise level. Selfbook plans to integrate PayPal’s enterprise payment suite to facilitate credit card processing for its partner hotels and will incorporate PayPal’s checkout products into its external workflows.

A Unified Experience Across AI Platforms

This partnership is part of a broader trend of embedding financial services into emerging digital experiences. Selfbook has also tapped into PayPal to power payments within Perplexity’s hotel booking feature, which launched in March.

“Paying for a hotel has traditionally been the most fragmented part of travel—search one place, book another, pay somewhere else,” noted Khalid Meniri, co-founder and CEO of Selfbook. “With PayPal, we’re collapsing all of that into a single flow embedded directly into AI-powered experiences. This gives hotels a direct line to their guests, better margins through no commission, and more control over their brand.”
