CONTESTO:

More than three years after its $205 million acquisition, family safety platform Life360 has officially fully integrated the Tile lost-item tracking service. Starting this Wednesday, Life360 users can manage both their family members’ locations and their personal valuables—such as keys, wallets, and bags—directly within the flagship app.

Centralizing Tracking Capabilities

This long-awaited update consolidates two distinct user bases, steering Tile customers toward the Life360 ecosystem. The rollout begins immediately, with a global deployment expected to reach all users over the coming weeks. As the transition progresses, standalone Tile users will receive in-app prompts to migrate to Life360, while current Life360 subscribers will find a new dedicated section for item tracking located beneath the people and pets module on the app’s “Location” tab.

Real-Time Mapping and Subscription Tiers

Integration allows Tile devices to appear on the Life360 map in real time alongside family members. The platform offers a tiered approach to location history:

  • Free Users: Access to up to two days of location history.
  • Silver Members: Access to the past seven days of history and emergency dispatch services via the Tile SOS button (compatible with 2024 devices).
  • Gold and Platinum Members: Up to 30 days of location history.

Additionally, the company confirmed that automatic push notifications for “left behind” items will be deployed in the weeks ahead. Ahead of this integration, Life360 officially redirected the Tile.com domain to Life360.com.

The Future of the Standalone Tile App

While the goal is clearly to migrate users to the main Life360 app, the company stated that the standalone Tile app is not being retired “at this time.” However, maintaining redundant applications may become unsustainable once feature parity is fully established.

Life360’s strategy to merge these services was first announced in 2022. The delay in execution comes as the market faces increased competition, with rivals like Chipolo leveraging native integration into Apple and Google’s massive finding networks. Despite these challenges, Life360 maintains a strong foothold with 83.7 million global monthly active users, 45.3 million of whom reside in the United States.
