Instacart officially entered the social commerce space this Tuesday with the launch of Fizz, a dedicated mobile application designed to streamline snack and beverage delivery for parties and social gatherings. Targeted at users aged 21 and older, the app eliminates the logistical friction of group event planning by allowing hosts and guests to contribute to a shared digital cart.
Collaborative Shopping Without the Spreadsheet
The core value proposition of Fizz lies in its ability to remove the “Venmo-after-the-fact” ritual. Hosts can initiate a party cart and share a link via group chat, enabling guests to add items directly to the order. This ensures that everyone pays for their own contributions upfront, removing the need for manual bill-splitting.

“We see an opportunity to completely eliminate the manual effort of splitting costs,” explains Daniel Danker, Instacart’s Chief Product Officer. By integrating the social aspect of gathering into the shopping experience, Instacart is positioning itself to capture a younger demographic—specifically Gen Z and millennials—who prioritize shared accountability and inclusive menu planning, such as accounting for non-alcoholic or gluten-free preferences.
A Lightweight Alternative to the Instacart Core App
Unlike the primary Instacart platform, which is optimized for recurring grocery hauls and comprehensive retail needs, Fizz offers a “lightweight” user experience. Key features include:
- Flat Delivery Fees: A flat $5 delivery fee per order, with no additional costs for guests.
- No Membership Required: Unlike the main Instacart app, Fizz operates without a subscription model.
- Snack Bucks: A loyalty incentive where users earn credit toward future snack purchases by buying beverages.
The items are sourced from local grocery stores within the Instacart network and delivered by the company’s existing shopper fleet.
Strategic Integration and Market Positioning
To accelerate adoption, Instacart has partnered with the event-planning platform Partiful. This integration allows hosts to embed Fizz links directly into event invites, letting guests view and contribute to the party cart without ever leaving the Partiful interface.

“We’re solving a major logistical headache by making sure everyone’s tastes are accounted for in just a few taps,” says Shreya Murthy, CEO of Partiful.
Regulatory Compliance and Availability
While the app enters a space previously occupied by services like Drizly, Instacart differentiates itself by focusing on the social synergy of snacks and alcohol rather than just beverage delivery. Fizz is fully compliant with local alcohol sales regulations and is currently available across a wide range of U.S. states, including California, Texas, New York, Florida, and Virginia, among others.
