Spread the love

ReMarkable is pivoting back to its roots with the launch of the Paper Pure, a $399 monochrome E Ink tablet designed to replace the aging reMarkable 2. After recent experiments with color displays like the Paper Pro Move, the Norwegian company is targeting productivity purists with updated hardware and refined software capabilities.

Design Refinements and Hardware Upgrades

While the Paper Pure retains the 10.3-inch display size of its predecessor, the chassis is wider to optimize the reading and note-taking experience. The screen maintains a resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels (226 PPI). Under the hood, the device is significantly more capable, featuring 32GB of storage—four times the capacity of the reMarkable 2—and a lighter build at 360 grams, shaving 40 grams off the previous model.

Performance metrics show a 50% increase in responsiveness compared to the older generation. Power efficiency has also been addressed, with a 3,820 mAh battery that provides 30% longer runtime.

Modern Productivity Integration

ReMarkable has overhauled the software suite to ensure the Paper Pure functions as a modern professional tool:

  • Cloud and Sync: Documents imported from cloud services are automatically converted into annotated-ready notebooks.
  • Search and Handwriting: Enhanced handwriting recognition allows for more accurate search capabilities.
  • Third-Party Connectivity: The tablet now integrates with Slack to convert handwritten notes into typed text, and offers Miro integration for sharing sketches and collaborative diagrams.
  • Calendar Support: Users can sync calendars directly to manage meeting-specific notes.

Availability and Market Strategy

With the introduction of the Paper Pure, reMarkable has confirmed it will sunset production of the reMarkable 2, though it will continue to provide software updates and support for existing users. The company reports a strong install base, with over 3.5 million devices sold and 1.2 million active subscribers to its “Connect” service, which provides cloud storage and exclusive templates.

The Paper Pure is available for order starting today, with shipping scheduled for early June. The base model includes a standard stylus, while a $449 bundle upgrades the package to the “Marker Plus”—which includes an eraser function—along with a color-matched sleeve folio.
