Enhanced Connectivity and Performance

The headline feature for the new displays is the integration of Thunderbolt 5 ports. This upgrade allows for high-speed peripheral connections and the ability to daisy-chain up to four displays using the included Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable. Beyond connectivity, the display maintains its impressive 5K Retina resolution, boasting over 14 million pixels, 600 nits of brightness, and full support for the P3 wide-gamut color standard.

Advanced Camera and Audio Systems

Collaboration tools receive a boost with a new 12MP Center Stage camera designed for superior image clarity. The system supports the “Desk View” feature, enabling users to broadcast their face and an overhead view of their workspace simultaneously. Audio performance has also been refined, featuring a three-microphone array and a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio support, which Apple claims delivers 30% deeper bass compared to the previous generation.

Notably, the XDR model is designed for medical-grade workflows, including DICOM medical imaging presets and a dedicated Medical Imaging Calibrator. Apple confirmed that the macOS-based calibrator is currently pending FDA clearance for U.S. clinical use.

Availability and Customization

While the standard Studio Display offers tilt-adjustment, the XDR variant provides both tilt and height-adjustable stand options. Both models are available with standard glass or the anti-reflective nano-texture glass finish. Preorders for the new displays open on March 4, with general retail availability beginning March 11.
