Pickle Robot, a specialist in autonomous unloading technology for logistics, has appointed Jeff Evanson as its first-ever Chief Financial Officer. The strategic hire comes on the heels of reports detailing a massive $120 million automation deal between the Charlestown-based company and shipping titan UPS.

Strengthening Leadership Amid Scaling

Evanson officially transitioned to the full-time CFO role this Thursday, having served as a consultant for the robotics firm since September. His arrival marks a pivotal moment for Pickle Robot, a company founded in 2018 that has successfully secured approximately $100 million in venture capital funding to date.

The Tesla Connection

The new CFO brings extensive experience from the automotive and tech sectors, most notably a six-year tenure at Tesla. Between 2011 and 2017, Evanson served as the vice president of global investor relations and strategy.

During his time at Tesla, he worked closely with Elon Musk, playing a critical role in securing both debt and equity financing. This capital was instrumental in the launch of multiple vehicle lines and supported the company’s aggressive acquisition strategy.

Logistics Expansion and the UPS Deal

The appointment coincides with reports that Pickle Robot is significantly expanding its footprint within the logistics industry. According to recent data from Bloomberg, UPS is set to invest $120 million to acquire 400 of Pickle’s autonomous unloading robots. These units are expected to begin deployment across facilities between late 2026 and early 2027.

While Pickle Robot declined to comment on the specific financials of the UPS transaction, a spokesperson confirmed that UPS has maintained a customer relationship with the firm for several years. The hiring of an executive with Evanson’s track record suggests the company is preparing for a period of high-growth operations and increased market penetration.
