Venture capitalist Tim Draper is taking his global pitch competition, Meet the Drapers, to a massive new audience through a strategic partnership with TikTok. Ahead of its eighth season, the show is leveraging the short-form video platform to scout the next generation of disruptive startups.

How the TikTok Pitch Process Works
Entrepreneurs can now submit 30- to 60-second pitches via TikTok, showcasing their business models to the public. The process follows a strict timeline:
- Applications: Open until September 30.
- Livestream Reviews: Scheduled for October 1–3.
- Finalists Selection: Winners will be announced on October 4.
Four finalists will secure a spot on a future episode of Meet the Drapers, where they will pitch directly to judges for a chance at a $1 million investment from Tim Draper himself.
Strategic Value for TikTok and Startups
For TikTok, this collaboration serves as a powerful branding tool, positioning the platform as a hub for small business advocacy and educational content—a vital narrative as it faces ongoing regulatory scrutiny in the U.S. For the show, the partnership offers unprecedented reach, moving beyond its traditional YouTube audience, where episodes typically garner half a million views.
Unlike mainstream shows that prioritize entertainment, Draper emphasizes that his competition is built for high-impact innovation. “We’re not looking for a new bikini company,” Draper explains. “We are funding something that, 10 years from now, is going to rock the world.”
A Track Record of Global Investment
The competition maintains a global footprint, with past seasons filmed in regions including India, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Denmark, Taiwan, and the UAE. Draper views this geographical diversity as essential to identifying talent from anywhere in the world.
The financial stakes extend beyond the $1 million grand prize. Draper typically allocates $2 million to $3 million annually for show participants. Runners-up often receive $500,000 for second place and $250,000 for third, with some participants securing $50,000 investments.
Notable Alumni and Portfolio Impact
To date, Meet the Drapers has facilitated between 35 and 40 investments. Past winners include:
- Vivoo (At-home health testing)
- CancerFree Biotech
- BONV (Drones)
- Balloon (Collaboration software)
- It’s Skinny (Health food)
Draper’s broader investment portfolio includes industry titans such as Tesla, SpaceX, Baidu, Skype, and Coinbase. As the show enters this new phase with TikTok, the focus remains on sectors Draper favors, including AI, space exploration, bitcoin, and the digitization of medicine.
