Spotify Adopts Apple Tech to Boost Video Podcast Reach – Ankor Tech

Spotify announced on Thursday a strategic shift to integrate Apple’s HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) technology, aiming to streamline cross-platform video podcast distribution. By adopting this standard, which Apple recently launched, Spotify allows creators to syndicate and monetize their video content on Apple Podcasts without needing to modify their current production workflows.

Seamless Streaming with HLS Technology

The transition to HLS is designed to eliminate technical friction for listeners. This protocol enables real-time video quality adjustments based on the user’s network environment. Whether a listener is connected to high-speed Wi-Fi or unstable cellular data, the technology ensures a consistent viewing experience by minimizing buffering and preventing sudden drops in resolution.

Spotify confirmed that these infrastructure upgrades are slated for rollout later this year. Beyond technical improvements, the company is expanding its monetization toolkit, with plans to introduce direct sales options and new partner integrations for creators.

Broadening Creator Distribution Channels

Spotify is actively lowering barriers to entry for podcasters. Creators utilizing hosting platforms such as Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace can now publish video content directly to Spotify. This integration, which is already live, allows these creators to participate in the Spotify Partner Program and generate revenue directly from their content.

The Rise of Video Podcasting

Since the initial launch of video podcasts in 2020, Spotify has aggressively expanded its visual media footprint. The platform’s commitment to video has yielded significant results: as of November 2025, the service hosts nearly half a million shows, with over 390 million users engaging with video podcast content.

By simplifying distribution and enhancing playback stability, Spotify aims to solidify its dominance in the podcast market, catering to a growing audience segment that prioritizes visual storytelling over traditional audio-only formats.
