Netflix has officially entered the dedicated children’s gaming market with the launch of Netflix Playground. Announced this Monday, the new stand-alone application is available exclusively to Netflix subscribers, offering an ad-free experience completely devoid of in-app purchases.
Designed for Early Learning and Play
Tailored specifically for children aged eight and under, the app provides access to an expanding library of interactive titles featuring beloved characters from popular Netflix children’s series. The platform aims to bridge the gap between passive viewing and active engagement.

“We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them,” said John Derderian, Netflix’s vice president of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, in a formal press release. The current catalog includes titles such as “Playtime With Peppa Pig,” interactive memory and coordination games based on “Sesame Street,” alongside “Storybots,” “Bad Dinosaurs,” and “Let’s Color.”
Global Rollout and Offline Capabilities
Netflix Playground is currently available for download on both iOS and Android devices in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand. A full worldwide rollout is scheduled for April 28.
One of the app’s key value propositions is its offline functionality. By allowing children to play without a constant Wi-Fi or mobile data connection, Netflix positions the app as a primary tool for travel and on-the-go entertainment.
Netflix’s Evolving Gaming Strategy
This launch marks a pivot in Netflix’s broader gaming strategy. Since first entering the gaming space in 2021, the company has navigated a turbulent path, including the closure of several internal studios such as Boss Fight, Spry Fox, and an AAA studio project.
While the company previously experimented with high-end gaming, it has recently shifted its focus toward party-style TV titles—such as Tetris and Pictionary—and a long-term commitment to cloud gaming. With “Playground,” Netflix is doubling down on its most reliable demographic: children and family-oriented content.
