Tinder Launches ‘Share My Date’ to Simplify Safety Planning – Ankor Tech

Tinder has officially rolled out “Share My Date,” a new in-app feature designed to help users instantly share their upcoming date plans with friends and family. The update, announced Monday, allows singles to transmit critical details—including the match’s name, meeting location, date, and time—directly from the app, streamlining a common safety ritual.

Seamless Coordination for Safer Dating

The feature addresses a common behavior among modern daters: according to internal Tinder data, 51% of singles under 30 share date details with their inner circle before heading out. With “Share My Date,” users can now generate a link up to 30 days in advance. These links remain editable, allowing users to update plans in real-time as arrangements change.

Recipients do not need a Tinder account to view the shared information. While Tinder users can view a match’s full profile through the link, non-users are restricted to a limited browser view displaying only the match’s name, age, and photos. To prevent misuse and social media oversharing, the links are designed to expire after a set period.

Strategic Rollout and Industry Context

“Discussing plans with friends and family is a time-honored dating ritual,” said Melissa Hobley, Tinder’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Share My Date streamlines this basic info-sharing so singles can jump right to the exciting part.”

The feature is currently being deployed across major markets, including the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, India, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, Switzerland, Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Market Challenges for Match Group

This update arrives as the broader dating app industry faces stagnating growth. Market data shows U.S. app installs grew by only 2.38% as of last January, a sharp decline compared to the nearly 16% growth seen in the previous year. Furthermore, Tinder’s paying customer base saw an 8% year-over-year drop to 10 million in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Parent company Match Group, which oversees a portfolio including Hinge, OkCupid, and Plenty of Fish, is expected to provide further insights into its performance during the Q1 2024 earnings report scheduled for May 8.
