Meta is accelerating the growth of Threads by streamlining how users share content across its social ecosystem. This week, the company introduced a native feature that allows users to share Threads posts directly to their Instagram Stories without exiting the application, providing a seamless preview of how the post will appear to followers.
Deepening Cross-Platform Integration
This official update simplifies a process that previously required more manual effort. While users could already share content to their Instagram Feed or via Direct Messages, the new, streamlined Story integration is designed to leverage Instagram’s massive user base to drive further adoption of Meta’s text-first platform.
Strategic Growth for the X Competitor
Since its launch in July 2023, Threads has utilized its deep integration with Instagram to scale rapidly. By allowing users to authenticate with existing Instagram credentials and instantly import account details—including bios, profile photos, and follow lists—Meta removed the friction typically associated with onboarding to a new social network.
The Numbers Behind the Momentum
Meta’s strategy of cross-pollinating content between Facebook, Instagram, and Threads has yielded significant results. According to recent data from Similarweb, Threads has surpassed Elon Musk’s X in daily mobile usage. The platform’s growth trajectory has been aggressive, doubling its monthly active user count from 200 million in August 2024 to 400 million by August 2025. Furthermore, as of October 2025, the platform hit a milestone of 150 million daily active users.
By consistently implementing features that encourage cross-posting and content visibility across its family of apps, Meta continues to reinforce the position of Threads as a dominant player in the microblogging space.
