Apple has officially launched the public beta of iOS 26.4, bringing a significant suite of updates to iPhone users. The release introduces AI-driven music generation, native video support for podcasts, enhanced security protocols, and refined productivity tools, with a general public rollout anticipated between March and April.

AI-Powered Apple Music Features

The standout addition to Apple Music is the “Playlist Playground,” a feature powered by Apple Intelligence. Users can now generate custom 25-song playlists using simple text prompts—such as “upbeat workout mix” or “calm evening”—and refine the results with tailored cover art.

Beyond AI, the interface has received a visual refresh featuring full-screen artwork for albums and playlists. Additionally, a new “Concerts Near You” section allows users to discover live events, filtered by date, genre, and location.

Video Podcasts and HLS Integration

Apple is expanding its podcast experience by allowing seamless transitions between audio and video playback. Creators can now publish video content using HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), enabling listeners to switch to full-screen horizontal displays instantly.

This update includes automatic quality adjustment via HLS for optimized streaming on both Wi-Fi and cellular networks, with support for offline downloads. Starting later this year, ad networks will implement impression-based fees for dynamic video ads within these streams.

Security and Messaging Upgrades

iOS 26.4 advances messaging security with the testing of encrypted Rich Communication Services (RCS). This update aims to provide end-to-end encryption for cross-platform conversations between iPhone and Android users, though testing is currently restricted to iPhone-to-iPhone beta communications.

Furthermore, “Stolen Device Protection” is now enabled by default. This security layer mandates biometric authentication (Face ID or Touch ID) for sensitive actions, such as accessing saved passwords, mitigating risks if a device is stolen.

CarPlay and Camera Enhancements

CarPlay now supports in-car video playback for select apps, such as Apple TV, exclusively while the vehicle is parked. The platform also introduces support for third-party AI services, including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

For content creators, the Camera app now features “Audio Zoom,” which narrows the microphone’s focus to the subject during video recording to reduce background noise. Additionally, users can now access “Ambient Music” via a dedicated Home Screen widget.

Additional System Improvements

  • Reminders: A new “Urgent” section for high-priority tasks with prominent alert triggers.
  • Apple Account Hub: A unified management portal replacing the legacy profile section.
  • Wallpaper Gallery: Redesigned with categorized sections for Weather, Astronomy, and Emoji.
  • Health App: Now tracks “Average Bedtime” and includes blood oxygen levels in daily Vitals graphs.
  • Personal Hotspot: Enhanced data usage monitoring, detailing consumption by specific devices.
  • Shortcuts: Added action to set custom battery charge limits.

Notably, despite ongoing reports of Apple’s AI ambitions, the highly anticipated next-generation Siri experience remains absent from this beta release.
