Doist, the developer behind the popular productivity platform Todoist, has officially launched Todoist Ramble. This new AI-powered feature allows users to populate their to-do lists using natural language, effectively transforming unstructured speech into organized, actionable tasks.

How Todoist Ramble Works

Ramble is designed to capture the nuance of human speech. Users simply tap the icon and start speaking; the AI processes the audio in real-time to extract critical information such as deadlines, priority levels, duration, and task assignees. It even handles conversational corrections, allowing users to issue follow-up commands like “Actually, make that for Thursday” during the same session.

The underlying technology is part of Todoist Assist, leveraging Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI. This integration enables low-latency speech understanding, ensuring that tasks appear in the app almost as quickly as they are spoken.

Privacy and Security Standards

In an era of heightened sensitivity regarding voice data, Doist has emphasized privacy. The company confirms that audio input is not stored, nor is it utilized for training AI models. Furthermore, the application is SOC2 Type II certified, meeting rigorous security and data protection benchmarks.

Market Context and Performance

Ramble enters a competitive landscape of AI-driven voice assistants and wearable hardware, such as Amazon’s Bee and various smart rings, designed to streamline note-taking and task management. However, Todoist aims to capture this market directly within its existing ecosystem.

The feature underwent extensive testing with 150,000 “Experimental” users. During the beta phase, the AI’s success rate in accurate task creation climbed from 40% in October to 62% by December. Additionally, Doist reported that new users utilizing Ramble were five times more likely to upgrade their subscription plans compared to those who did not.

Availability and Accessibility

Todoist Ramble is available starting today across iOS, Android, desktop, and web platforms, with support for 38 languages. Accessibility features include:

  • iOS: Home Screen and Lock Screen shortcuts.
  • Android: App shortcuts, widgets, and quick settings tiles.

While the feature is accessible to users on the entry-level plan, it comes with a monthly session limit. Users subscribed to Pro and Business plans receive unlimited access to Ramble sessions.
