Google officially launched its AI-powered search experience, AI Mode, for Spanish-speaking users worldwide this Tuesday. This strategic expansion enables a broader global audience to interact with Google Search through natural language, facilitating complex inquiries, image uploads, and multi-turn conversational follow-ups.

Rapid Global Expansion of AI Search

The introduction of Spanish support follows a massive rollout in August, which saw AI Mode debut in 180 countries. Prior to this, the feature was restricted to the U.S., U.K., and India. During that phase, Google also integrated advanced AI capabilities, including restaurant reservations for AI Ultra subscribers, with plans to incorporate ticket purchasing and broader appointment scheduling in the near future.

Broadening the Ecosystem: Android and Subscription Plans

Google is scaling its AI integration across its entire product suite. Alongside the search update, the company announced that conversational photo editing tools are now available to all Android users in the U.S. Furthermore, the more affordable Google AI Plus subscription—originally piloted in Indonesia—has expanded to 40 additional countries.

This push aligns with the intensifying competition in the AI subscription market. OpenAI recently launched its “ChatGPT Go” plan in India and Indonesia, positioning it as a mid-tier offering between the free version and the $20-per-month ChatGPT Plus. This tier provides users with 10 times the usage limits for prompts and file uploads, alongside improved conversational memory for personalized interactions.

Multilingual Growth and Feature Differentiation

Google’s commitment to localization is evident; the company recently confirmed that AI Mode now supports Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese.

As the interface evolves, users must distinguish between the company’s various AI offerings. AI Mode functions as a distinct, immersive environment for direct interaction with Gemini AI. In contrast, AI Overviews serve as static, AI-generated summaries displayed at the top of standard search results, intended for quick information retrieval rather than extended dialogue.
