Google is transforming the living room experience by integrating advanced Gemini AI capabilities into Google TV devices. Unveiled at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, these new features enable users to interact with their televisions through natural language, bypassing complex menu navigation and unlocking deeper content discovery.

Seamless Voice Control and Content Discovery
The core of this update is a conversational AI interface designed specifically for large-screen displays. Users can now ask their TV for recommendations based on nuanced tastes, request plot recaps of series, or search for shows using only vague descriptions of actors or storylines. For example, asking for the “new hospital drama everyone is talking about” triggers an intelligent, context-aware search response.
Gemini provides these answers through a visually rich framework that dynamically combines text, imagery, video context, and real-time data, such as sports scores, directly on the screen.

Educational Deep Dives and Media Management
Beyond entertainment, Google is positioning the TV as an educational tool. Users can query the system for information, and the interface will generate a narrated, interactive overview, allowing for follow-up questions to expand on the subject matter.
The integration also extends to personal media. Gemini allows users to search their Google Photos library for specific people or moments and apply artistic styles to transform photos and videos into cinematic slideshows.

Optimizing Settings with Natural Language
Perhaps the most practical improvement is the ability to adjust hardware settings via voice commands. Instead of digging through sub-menus, users can simply state, “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue.” Gemini interprets these requests and adjusts the TV’s picture and audio settings in real-time without interrupting the playback.

Rollout and System Requirements
Google plans to debut these features on select TCL televisions before expanding availability to a broader range of Google TV devices in the coming months. To utilize these features, devices must run Android TV OS 14 or higher, maintain an active internet connection, and be linked to a Google account. Regional and language limitations may apply at launch.
