Spotify announced on Thursday a major expansion for its interactive AI DJ feature, which now supports four additional languages: Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, and Italian. Previously restricted to English and Spanish, this update significantly broadens the accessibility of the AI-powered music curation tool.

New Personalities for Global Markets

To ensure a localized experience, Spotify has introduced distinct AI DJ personas tailored to each new language. Users interacting with these versions will encounter unique voices and personalities named Maia, Ben, Alex, and Dani, each designed to resonate with their respective linguistic audiences.

Global Rollout and Availability

Beyond language updates, the streaming giant is extending the reach of the AI DJ to eight new markets: Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, and South Korea. With this rollout, the feature is now accessible to listeners in more than 75 countries worldwide.

Evolution Toward Conversational AI

Initially launched as a simple commentary tool to introduce tracks based on listener preferences, the AI DJ has evolved into a highly interactive assistant. In May 2025, Spotify overhauled the feature to allow users to engage in natural language conversations. Listeners can now request specific mood shifts, genre changes, or prompt the AI to play specific tracks, mirroring the conversational capabilities found in advanced LLMs like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

Spotify’s Growing AI Ecosystem

This update is part of Spotify’s broader strategy to integrate generative AI across its platform. The company continues to deploy new features, including the ability to generate custom music and podcast playlists through simple text-based descriptions, further cementing its position as a leader in AI-driven personalized audio discovery.
