Amazon-owned eero has officially unveiled the eero Signal, a new 4G LTE hardware solution designed to provide seamless internet connectivity during outages. Announced this Wednesday, the device serves as an automatic cellular backup, ensuring that essential home networks remain online when the primary connection fails.

How Eero Signal Maintains Connectivity

The eero Signal is engineered for simplicity. Users connect the device to any compatible USB-C powered eero unit running Wi-Fi 6 or higher. Once integrated, the system monitors the primary internet connection; if an outage is detected, the device immediately switches to cellular data. When the standard service is restored, the hardware automatically reverts to standby mode.

This functionality is particularly valuable for remote workers, households relying on smart security systems, and residents living in regions prone to frequent ISP interruptions.

Subscription Tiers and Data Plans

Because the cellular connection acts as an intermittent failover, Amazon has structured the eero subscription plans to be more cost-effective than standard mobile broadband. The service utilizes a built-in multi-carrier eSIM that automatically selects the optimal network, including support for major carriers like AT&T and Verizon.

  • eero Plus: $99.99 annually, providing 10 GB of backup data.
  • eero Plus 100: $199.99 annually, providing 100 GB of backup data.

Both tiers currently offer discounted pricing for customers at the time of the initial hardware purchase.

Future Roadmap and 5G Expansion

The company is not stopping at 4G LTE. Amazon confirmed that a 5G version of the eero Signal is scheduled for release later this year, with an expected retail price of $199.99. Furthermore, the company plans to expand support for the eero Signal to include customers enrolled in eero Business plans in the near future.
