Apple officially unveiled its latest MacBook Air today, integrating the powerful M4 chip into its best-selling laptop lineup. Available in 13-inch and 15-inch configurations, the new model combines enhanced processing performance with a more aggressive entry price of $999—a $100 reduction from the previous generation.

Performance and Memory Specifications
The transition to the M4 chip marks the latest milestone in Apple’s silicon roadmap, which began with the iPad Pro in May 2024. The base configuration retains 16GB of RAM, ensuring all models fully support Apple Intelligence features out of the box. For power users, Apple provides an upgrade path allowing memory configurations of up to 32GB.
Connectivity and Hardware Upgrades
While the aesthetic remains consistent with previous iterations, the internal hardware sees significant connectivity improvements. The device features two upgraded Thunderbolt 4 ports, enabling support for up to two external displays simultaneously. Essential legacy features remain intact, including the MagSafe 3 charging port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Design, Display, and Camera Enhancements
Apple has introduced a new “sky blue” color option to the existing palette of midnight, starlight, and silver. Additionally, the integrated webcam now features Center Stage support, a software-driven enhancement that keeps users perfectly framed during video calls.
Market Positioning and Availability
While the MacBook Pro remains the choice for users requiring extended battery life and high-density mini-LED displays, the MacBook Air continues to dominate the market by balancing portability with cost-effectiveness. The M4 refresh is expected to sustain this momentum, providing a reliable performance boost for the average consumer.
Preorders are currently live, with the first units scheduled to ship on Wednesday, March 12.
