Sixty-six years after its original 1958 debut, Brenda Lee’s iconic hit “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has been reimagined in Spanish. Universal Music Group announced the release of “Noche Buena y Navidad” this Friday, marking a significant milestone in the use of ethically sourced artificial intelligence within the music industry.

The Technology Behind the Vocal Transformation

The project utilized cutting-edge MicDrop technology, developed by SoundLabs AI. This tool allowed producers to reconstruct Spanish vocals by analyzing and synthesizing the original performance of Lee, who was only 13 years old when she recorded the track. The result is a seamless linguistic transition that preserves the authentic tone of the singer’s youthful voice while adapting it for a global Spanish-speaking audience.

Brenda Lee Endorses the AI Rework

Brenda Lee, now 79, has publicly supported the initiative. Reflecting on her extensive catalog, she noted that while she recorded songs in various languages throughout her career, a Spanish version of her holiday signature song remained an unfulfilled ambition. “To have this out now is pretty incredible, and I’m happy to introduce the song to fans in a new way,” Lee stated.

A New Era for Holiday Music

The release of “Noche Buena y Navidad” arrives exactly two months before the holiday season, signaling a strategic shift for music executives. As the industry grapples with the implications of generative technology, this authorized project highlights how “responsible” AI can be deployed to revitalize classic catalogs and reach new demographics without compromising the integrity of the original artist’s legacy.
