Adobe officially launched the beta version of its Photoshop mobile app for Android this Tuesday. This release arrives four months after the company debuted its iOS counterpart, marking a significant expansion of Adobe’s creative suite for mobile users worldwide.

Professional Editing Tools on Mobile
The Android application mirrors many of the core functionalities found in the desktop version, including advanced layering and masking capabilities, all optimized specifically for mobile touchscreens. During this initial beta phase, users can access these professional-grade features at no cost.
The app integrates powerful AI-driven capabilities, such as “Generative Fill,” allowing creators to add or transform image elements seamlessly. Precision editing is supported by tools like:
- Tap Select: For rapid removal or replacement of image segments.
- Spot Healing Brush: Designed to eliminate visual distractions.
- Remove and Clone Stamp: For detailed image refinement.
- Object Select and Magic Wand: Enabling highly accurate selections.
Furthermore, users gain access to a comprehensive library of free Adobe Stock assets, alongside robust control over layers, effects, and various adjustment modes.
Strategic Expansion for Creative Users
Adobe’s move to bring Photoshop to Android is a strategic play to capture a younger demographic that prioritizes mobile-first creativity. For existing power users, the mobile application provides a more accessible workflow, allowing for high-quality edits while on the go.
System Requirements and Future Pricing
The Photoshop Android beta is compatible with devices running Android 11 or later. To ensure a smooth experience, the app requires a minimum of 6GB of RAM, though Adobe explicitly recommends 8GB or more for optimal performance.
While the app is currently free during the beta period, Adobe has outlined a future monetization model. Once the app moves to general availability, users will have the option to subscribe for $7.99 per month to unlock premium features and web-based access. Notably, all existing paid Photoshop plans already include full access to the mobile version, maintaining parity with the service’s ecosystem.
Adobe confirmed that additional capabilities and feature updates are already in development and will be rolled out to the Android app in the near future.
