Apple has officially unveiled its latest iteration of the iPad Air, featuring the powerful M3 chip. Available in both 11-inch and 13-inch models, the new tablets are set to launch on March 12, with preorders opening this Tuesday.

Pricing and Configuration Options

The 11-inch iPad Air starts at $599, while the 13-inch variant begins at $799. Both models offer versatile storage configurations, including 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Consumers can choose from four distinct finishes: blue, purple, starlight, and space gray.

Performance Gains: M3 vs. Previous Generations

While the new iPad Air supports Apple Intelligence, it utilizes the M3 processor rather than the M4 chip. Despite this, Apple highlights significant performance leaps: the M3-powered tablet is nearly twice as fast as the M1 model and up to 3.5 times faster than the version running the A14 Bionic.

Specifically, the M3 chip delivers up to 35% faster multithreaded CPU performance and a 9-core GPU that provides a 40% boost in graphics speed compared to the M1. Additionally, the integrated Neural Engine is 60% faster, optimizing AI-based workflows.

Redesigned Magic Keyboard

Complementing the new tablets is an updated Magic Keyboard. This accessory features a larger trackpad and a dedicated 14-key function row for seamless control of volume and screen brightness. It connects via a magnetic Smart Connector, eliminating the need for Bluetooth or manual charging, and includes a machined aluminum hinge and a USB-C port.

The new Magic Keyboard is available in white, priced at $269 for the 11-inch model and $319 for the 13-inch version.

Updates to the Standard iPad

Beyond the Air lineup, Apple has refreshed the standard iPad. The new model now comes with double the starting storage and is powered by the A16 chip. This upgrade offers a 30% performance increase over the previous generation and a 50% improvement compared to the iPad with the A13 Bionic. Apple claims this iteration is up to 6 times faster than the top-selling Android tablet on the market.

“For everyone from college students taking notes with Apple Pencil Pro, to travelers and content creators who need powerful productivity on the go, iPad Air with M3, Apple Intelligence, and the new Magic Keyboard take versatility and value to the next level,” noted Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
