Bluesky Unveils Attie: The AI Tool to Build Custom Feeds – Ankor Tech
Spread the love

Bluesky has officially entered the AI space with the launch of Attie, an innovative assistant designed to empower users to build custom algorithms and personalized social feeds through natural language commands. Announced by former CEO Jay Graber and CTO Paul Frazee at the Atmosphere conference, the tool operates on the AT Protocol (ATProto), leveraging Anthropic’s Claude to provide a highly agentic social experience.

Democratizing Algorithm Design

Unlike standard social media features, Attie functions as a standalone product rather than an integrated component of the main Bluesky app. Interim CEO Toni Schneider emphasizes that the platform allows users to shape their digital environment without requiring technical coding skills. By logging in with their existing ATProto credentials, users grant the AI context regarding their preferences and network interactions, enabling the creation of bespoke feeds that filter through the noise of social media.

Beyond Feeds: The Future of “Vibe-Coding”

The current beta release focuses on feed curation, but the roadmap for Attie is significantly more ambitious. The team plans to evolve the tool to enable “vibe-coding,” where users can build their own custom social applications and specialized tools from scratch using simple prompts. This shift marks a strategic move for Jay Graber, who stepped down from the CEO role to focus exclusively on product innovation and development within the ecosystem.

AI Serving People, Not Platforms

Graber positions Attie as a direct response to the data-harvesting tactics of major social platforms. While traditional networks use AI to maximize engagement and time-on-app for corporate gain, the objective here is to put control back into the hands of the user. “We think AI should serve people, not platforms,” Graber stated. This philosophy remains central as the company balances its $100 million funding runway with the need to scale support for its 43.4 million users.

Monetization and the WordPress Parallel

Despite significant financial backing from crypto-focused investors, the company has explicitly ruled out crypto integration, dismissing fears of potential scams or tokenization. Instead, leadership is exploring sustainable monetization models, including potential subscription tiers or hosting services for independent communities.

Schneider, drawing from his experience at Automattic, compares the long-term vision of the “Atmosphere” ecosystem to the growth of WordPress. By maintaining an open, decentralized system where various apps and services can coexist, the company aims to foster an economy that mirrors the decentralized success and massive scale of the web publishing industry.
