Google has officially streamlined access to “AI Mode” for mobile users, integrating a dedicated shortcut directly into the Chrome browser. Starting this Wednesday in the U.S., users can trigger the AI-powered search experience—designed for complex queries and follow-up investigation—via a new button located beneath the search bar on the “New Tab” page.
Global Expansion and Accessibility
This rollout is not limited to domestic users. Google confirmed that the shortcut will soon reach 160 additional countries. The update also brings language support for Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, among others. This move follows the recent global expansion of AI Mode to 180 countries, signaling Google’s aggressive push to maintain dominance against competitors like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search.

Evolution of AI Mode Capabilities
Since its launch in March, Google has consistently enhanced AI Mode with sophisticated features to improve user utility:
- Agentic Capabilities: Users can now leverage the tool to assist with booking event tickets, as well as beauty and wellness appointments. This builds upon the restaurant reservation features introduced in August.
- Canvas Feature: Launched in July, this tool allows users to organize information and build study plans across multiple sessions in a dedicated side panel.
- Visual Integration: The platform now supports Google Lens, enabling users to query information directly from their desktop screens.
By prioritizing a seamless mobile experience, Google aims to solidify its position as the primary hub for AI-assisted search, encouraging users to stay within its ecosystem rather than migrating to alternative AI-driven research tools.
