Google officially launched its Gemini AI feature for the Chrome browser across several Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets this Monday. Users in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam can now leverage integrated AI tools directly within their browsing experience. The deployment covers both desktop and iOS platforms, with the exception of Japan, where the feature is currently limited to desktop.
Advanced AI Capabilities at Your Fingertips
This expansion continues Google’s aggressive strategy to embed Gemini into the fabric of Chrome. Since last year, the company has experimented with various floating window integrations to bring artificial intelligence closer to the user’s workflow.
The current implementation features a sidebar-based assistant designed to streamline complex tasks. By utilizing Gemini’s “Personal Intelligence” capabilities, users can connect their browser to Google services, including Gmail and Google Photos, to generate highly personalized responses. Key functionalities include:
- Calendar Management: Scheduling meetings directly from the sidebar.
- Location Services: Retrieving Maps data without leaving the current tab.
- Communication: Drafting and sending emails via Gmail.
- Visual Editing: Transforming web images using the Nano Banana 2 tool within the sidebar.
Global Rollout and Future Prospects
The integration of Gemini into Chrome initially debuted in the United States in January, followed by a strategic expansion into India, Canada, and New Zealand in March. With the inclusion of these new APAC territories, Google is significantly increasing its global footprint for browser-based AI.
Limitations and Paid Features
While the standard sidebar assistant is rolling out broadly, more advanced “agentic” features—which grant the AI the ability to autonomously control the browser window to complete tasks—remain in the testing phase. Currently, these advanced capabilities are restricted to users subscribed to the AI Pro and AI Ultra paid plans located within the United States.
