Google Photos is rolling out a significant update today, introducing sophisticated AI-powered editing tools and expanding its natural language search capabilities to over 100 countries. These enhancements aim to streamline photo management and creative editing for users across iOS and Android platforms.
Advanced AI Editing and Personalized Controls
The update brings “prompt-based editing” to iOS users in the U.S., allowing them to modify images using simple voice or text commands. This follows the initial launch for Pixel 10 series devices in August.
A standout feature is the new “Help me edit” tool, which utilizes face grouping technology to perform precise, personalized adjustments. Users can now issue complex, multi-part instructions—such as “Remove sunglasses, open my eyes, and make Engel smile”—to customize specific individuals within a single frame.

Creative Templates and Stylization
Google is integrating its “Nano Banana” AI image model directly into the app. This integration enables users to transform standard photos into artistic styles, such as retro portraits or cartoon-inspired strips.
Starting next week, Android users in the U.S. and India will gain access to new AI templates within the “Create” tab. This functionality simplifies the process of converting existing images into specific, stylized formats, catering to the high demand for creative AI tools in these regions.

Unified AI Interaction with the New Ask Button
To improve navigation, Google is introducing a dedicated “Ask” button. This hub serves as a central point for AI-driven requests, including:
- Retrieving information about specific photos.
- Discovering related moments within a library.
- Triggering editing prompts.
The feature includes helpful suggestion chips to guide users on how to maximize the tool’s capabilities, currently rolling out for iOS and Android users in the U.S.

Global Expansion of AI Search
After a successful pilot in the United States, Google is taking its AI-powered search feature global. The update brings natural language photo search to more than 100 countries, including Brazil, Australia, India, Japan, Mexico, and South Africa.
The search engine now supports over 17 additional languages, such as Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, significantly lowering the barrier to entry for international users looking to organize their digital memories.
