Google officially announced a sweeping series of updates on Wednesday, bringing significant enhancements to the Android ecosystem and Pixel hardware. The rollout introduces Material 3 Expressive, advanced AI writing tools, expanded audio sharing capabilities, and creative customization options for users across its device lineup.
Material 3 Expressive and Customization
Starting this Wednesday, Pixel 6 and newer devices—along with the Pixel Tablet—will receive Material 3 Expressive. This interface update allows for deeper personalization, enabling users to apply dynamic “Live effects” to lock screen wallpapers and design customized calling cards for their contacts.

Audio and Wearable Upgrades
Pixel Buds Pro 2 users are set to receive Adaptive Audio later this month. This feature intelligently adjusts sound profiles based on the user’s environment, ensuring clarity while maintaining situational awareness. Additionally, the update integrates Gemini for clearer voice interactions in noisy settings and adds gesture controls, allowing users to accept or dismiss calls with simple head movements.
For Pixel Watch owners, navigation has become more seamless. Users can now initiate walking or biking directions on their smartphone via Google Maps and have the route automatically sync and display on their smartwatch.
AI-Powered Writing in Gboard
Gboard is receiving a significant AI boost. New writing tools allow users to adjust the tone of their messages—shifting between formal, expressive, or concise styles—and provide automated spelling and grammar corrections. Google emphasizes that all processing for these features occurs locally on the device, ensuring user data remains private.

Enhanced Connectivity and Sharing
Google is expanding Android’s audio ecosystem with support for pairing two LE Audio Bluetooth headphones simultaneously. This allows two users to listen to the same media on separate devices, a feature designed for shared commutes or public spaces. Furthermore, users can generate QR codes to host private audio broadcasts, facilitating group listening experiences like silent discos.
The Quick Share feature has also undergone a redesign, streamlining the process of sending and receiving files. Improvements include instant switching between transfer modes, image previews before sharing, and a real-time progress indicator for active file transfers.

Creative Bot Generation
Rounding out the update is “Androidify,” a creative tool that enables users to build custom Android bots. By uploading a selfie or providing a text prompt, users can leverage Gemini 2.5 Flash to caption images and Imagen to generate the character. In certain instances, Google’s latest video generation model, Veo 3, is utilized to bring these custom bots to life through animation.
