Pixel Buds 2a: Premium Features for the A-Series

The Pixel Buds 2a mark a major shift for Google’s budget-friendly audio line. For the first time, the A-Series now features Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), bridging the gap between affordable hardware and flagship performance.

Key upgrades for the Pixel Buds 2a include:

  • Clear Calling: Utilizes Google AI to filter background noise, working alongside wind-blocking mesh covers for crystal-clear communication.
  • Transparency Mode: Previously exclusive to the Pro line, this feature allows users to remain aware of their surroundings without removing their earbuds.
  • Hands-Free Gemini: Users can interact with the AI assistant via voice commands to manage directions, play music, or check emails without touching their phones.
  • Design Improvements: These are the most compact A-Series earbuds to date, featuring an IP54 sweat- and water-resistance rating.
  • Twist Stabilizer: A new design allows users to adjust the fit by twisting the earbuds for either a snug or loose feel.

The Pixel Buds 2a are priced at $130 and are available in Hazel and Iris colorways. They are scheduled to hit store shelves on October 9.

Pixel Buds Pro 2: Gesture Controls and New Sensors

Google is pushing the Pixel Buds Pro 2 further into the AI ecosystem with intuitive physical interactions and smart sensor technology. While the hardware remains premium, a software update arriving in September will unlock several new capabilities for all Pro 2 users.

The update introduces groundbreaking gesture controls: users can now accept or decline calls and text notifications simply by nodding or shaking their heads, thanks to built-in accelerometers. Furthermore, Gemini integration is becoming more robust, allowing users to add items to Google Keep grocery lists or schedule events directly in Google Calendar.

Other notable Pro 2 features include:

  • Adaptive Audio: Automatically modulates sound levels based on the user’s environment.
  • Loud Noise Protection: A safety feature that dampens abrupt, high-decibel sounds, such as sirens.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are priced at $230 and arrive in a new Moonstone color. Pre-orders are open now, with shipping set to begin on August 28.
