Instacart has officially appointed Chris Rogers, the company’s current Chief Business Officer, as its new CEO. The transition will take effect on August 15, with Rogers also securing a seat on the company’s board of directors.
A Strategic Leadership Transition
The move follows the recent departure of former CEO Fidji Simo, who is stepping down to lead OpenAI’s Applications division. Despite her exit from the CEO role, Simo will maintain a significant influence on the company’s trajectory as she continues to serve as Chair of the Board.
Rogers’ Proven Track Record
As Chief Business Officer, Rogers played a pivotal role in scaling the company’s operations. His portfolio included overseeing retailer relationships, ad sales, research and development, mergers and acquisitions, as well as the Instacart Business and Health divisions.
Rogers brings extensive industry experience to his new position. Before joining Instacart in 2019, he spent nearly 11 years at Apple, serving as the managing director for Apple Canada. His career foundations were built at Procter & Gamble, where he spearheaded partnerships with major national grocery retailers.
The Future of Instacart
In a formal statement, Rogers expressed his commitment to the company’s mission. “Instacart sits at the center of how people shop, eat, and care for their families,” he noted. “We have a world-class team, deep partnerships, leading technology, and a bold vision for the future.”
Outlining his strategy in a corporate blog post, Rogers confirmed that the company’s core vision remains unchanged. He emphasized a continued focus on expanding value for retailers and brands, alongside a push to provide more flexible earning opportunities for platform shoppers.
Confidence from Leadership
Fidji Simo expressed strong support for her successor in a letter to employees, highlighting Rogers’ instrumental role in the company’s development. “We chose Chris because the company needs a leader who understands all our partners deeply, has immense operational experience, and can mobilize teams around our vision,” Simo wrote. The two will work closely over the coming months to ensure a seamless leadership handoff.
