Jaguar Land Rover Extends Factory Shutdown After Cyberattack – Ankor Tech

Luxury automotive giant Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that production at its UK facilities will remain suspended for at least another week as the company struggles to recover from a sophisticated cyberattack. Operations, which were halted in early September following a data breach, are now scheduled to remain offline until at least Wednesday, October 1.

Cyberattack Fallout Paralyzes UK Operations

The security breach, which resulted in the theft of sensitive company data, forced an immediate emergency shutdown of manufacturing lines. While Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed the theft occurred, the automaker has remained tight-lipped regarding the specific nature or volume of the exfiltrated information.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the company clarified that the extended suspension is intended to provide operational certainty. Management stated the decision was made to “give clarity for the coming week as we build the timeline for the phased restart of our operations and continue our investigation.” However, the company stopped short of guaranteeing a full return to normalcy by the October deadline.

Supply Chain Stability at Risk

The impact of this extended downtime is rippling far beyond the factory floor. With production lines dormant for three consecutive weeks, the company’s extensive network of suppliers is facing mounting financial pressure. Reports suggest that key partners in the supply chain are increasingly concerned about the long-term viability of their own operations, with some fearing potential bankruptcy if the impasse continues.

Uncertain Timeline for Recovery

Despite mounting pressure from stakeholders and industry analysts, Jaguar Land Rover—a subsidiary of India’s Tata Motors—has yet to provide a definitive roadmap for restoring full manufacturing capacity. When approached for comment regarding a concrete restoration timeline, company spokesperson Francis Robertson-Marriott declined to provide further details, maintaining that the priority remains the ongoing investigation and the phased recovery of systems.
