Meta’s AI app surged to the No. 5 spot on the U.S. App Store this Thursday, a dramatic leap from its No. 57 ranking just 24 hours prior. This massive spike in user interest follows Wednesday’s release of Muse Spark, the company’s latest AI model and the first major launch under Alexandr Wang, who joined Meta to lead its Superintelligence Labs.

Data-Driven Growth: A Massive Surge in Installs

Market intelligence firm Sensor Tower reports that Meta AI captured approximately 46,000 U.S. iOS downloads on April 8, 2026—a single-day increase of 87%. While Android growth remained more modest at 3%, the overall consumer demand signals a significant pivot toward Meta’s ecosystem. According to Appfigures, global lifetime installs for the app have now reached 60.5 million, with 25 million of those occurring in 2026 alone.

What Makes Muse Spark Different?

Meta officially unveiled Muse Spark as a substantial upgrade over the previous Llama 4 architecture. The model is designed for high-level multimodal interaction, processing voice, text, and image inputs simultaneously.

Key capabilities include:

  • Complex Reasoning: Specialized support for science, mathematics, and health-related inquiries.
  • Visual Coding: Enables users to generate functional websites and mini-games directly from text prompts.
  • Multi-Agent Architecture: The system deploys specialized subagents to handle multifaceted user queries, a feature highlighted by the company during the rollout.

The Competitive Landscape

Despite the recent momentum, Meta AI is still playing catch-up in a crowded market dominated by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini. Meta’s aggressive push—which includes billions in talent acquisition and a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI—aims to close this gap.

The company plans to integrate Muse Spark across its entire suite of platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and its AI-powered glasses, in the coming weeks. Additionally, the mobile app and web interface have received a comprehensive UI overhaul to allow for task-specific mode switching.

Web Traffic Hits All-Time Highs

The interest isn’t confined to mobile app stores. Sensor Tower data reveals that daily web visitors for Meta AI in the U.S. spiked by more than 450% day-over-day on April 8. This traffic volume represents an all-time high for the platform, exceeding the previous 30-day average by over 570%. Currently, India leads as the top market for downloads, followed by the United States, Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico.
