Meta to Launch Premium Subscriptions for FB, IG and WhatsApp – Ankor Tech
Spread the love

Meta is set to roll out a series of premium subscription tiers across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp in the coming months. These paid plans aim to unlock exclusive creative tools, enhanced productivity features, and advanced AI capabilities, marking a significant shift in the company’s monetization strategy while keeping core services free for the general public.

Diversifying the Meta Ecosystem

Meta confirmed it will test various subscription models and feature bundles tailored to the unique user experience of each platform. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, the company intends to offer distinct sets of tools that provide users with greater control over their connectivity and content sharing.

Integrating Advanced AI Capabilities

A cornerstone of this new strategy involves scaling Manus, the AI agent recently acquired by Meta for a reported $2 billion. Meta is adopting a dual-path approach: integrating Manus directly into its apps and maintaining standalone subscriptions for business users. Evidence of this integration has already surfaced, with reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi identifying shortcuts for Manus AI currently under development within Instagram.

Furthermore, Meta plans to transition its “Vibes” video generation tool to a freemium model. While previously free, the AI-powered short-form video creator will soon offer a monthly subscription option to unlock additional production opportunities and advanced remixing features.

New Features for Instagram Users

While specific paid features for WhatsApp and Facebook remain under wraps, early reports suggest Instagram’s premium tier may include highly requested utility tools. According to Paluzzi, these could include:

  • Creation of unlimited audience lists.
  • Visibility into followers who do not follow the user back.
  • An “incognito” mode for viewing Stories without alerting the poster.

Beyond Meta Verified

These upcoming subscriptions are distinct from the existing “Meta Verified” program. While Meta Verified focuses on creators and businesses—offering badges, enhanced support, and impersonation protection—the new tiers are designed for a broader, everyday consumer base. The company aims to leverage data and user feedback gathered from Meta Verified to evolve its subscription business model.

The Challenge of Subscription Fatigue

Meta enters a competitive landscape where users are increasingly wary of “subscription fatigue.” To succeed, the company must prove the tangible value of its premium features. However, the success of Snapchat+—which has scaled to over 16 million subscribers with its $3.99 monthly entry point—suggests a viable market exists for social media users willing to pay for an enhanced, ad-free, or feature-rich experience.
