French privacy technology firm Murena has officially expanded its hardware lineup by releasing a “deGoogled” version of the Google Pixel Tablet. Designed for users seeking high-end hardware without the intrusive data collection associated with Google’s ecosystem, the device replaces standard Android with the open-source /e/OS operating system.

Hardware Meets Privacy-First Software

The Murena Pixel Tablet retains the original device’s 10.95-inch LCD display, offering the same performance and versatility expected from the hardware. The core difference lies in the software: by running /e/OS, Murena claims to eliminate Google services that typically track personal user information, providing a significantly more secure digital environment.

Murena confirmed that the decision to offer this specific device was driven by substantial consumer demand for privacy-centric tablets. The unit is currently available through Murena’s online shop, retailing for €539 or $549 in the United States, and comes equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

Navigating Apps Without the Play Store

Because the device is stripped of Google’s native services, the standard Google Play Store is absent. In its place, /e/OS utilizes a platform called “App Lounge.” This interface allows users to download applications from both Google Play and F-Droid anonymously.

While the system is designed to minimize Google’s footprint, Murena notes that accessing paid applications still requires authentication via a Google account. This workaround serves as the primary method for maintaining app functionality while bypassing the default tracking mechanisms inherent in a standard Android installation.

Replacing Google’s Suite with Workspace

Beyond the operating system, Murena is actively developing privacy-focused alternatives to common productivity tools like Google Drive and Office 365. Pixel Tablet owners gain access to “Workspace,” an integrated suite for file storage, cloud backups, and office document management.

The Workspace platform operates on a freemium model, granting users 1 GB of storage at no cost, with additional capacity available through tiered paid subscription plans. This allows users to maintain a functional workflow while keeping their data outside the reach of traditional Big Tech advertising and tracking structures.
