Apple has officially upgraded its AirTag lineup, introducing a new generation that delivers significantly improved tracking range, a 50% louder speaker, and enhanced integration with the company’s wearable ecosystem.

Enhanced Precision and Audio Performance

The new AirTag leverages an upgraded Bluetooth chip to extend its tracking range, allowing users to locate lost items from up to 50% farther away than the previous model. The signature Precision Finding feature—which provides haptic, visual, and audio guidance—has been bolstered to match this increased distance.

Auditory feedback is also more reliable. With a speaker that is 50% louder, the device’s alert signal can now be heard from twice the distance compared to its predecessor, ensuring that misplaced keys or bags are easier to find in noisy environments.

Expanded Ecosystem Integration

Apple is broadening the utility of the device by bringing Precision Finding support to the wrist. The feature is now accessible directly via Apple Watch Series 9 (or later) and Apple Watch Ultra 2 (or later), streamlining the recovery process without requiring an iPhone in hand.

Share Item Location and Market Dominance

The new hardware integrates seamlessly with the “Share Item Location” feature. This iOS capability allows users to temporarily share the location of their AirTag with third parties, a function currently supported by 50 airline partners for luggage tracking.

Since its 2021 debut, the AirTag has revolutionized the Bluetooth tracker market. Despite pushback from competitors like Tile regarding Apple’s expansive Find My network, the AirTag remains the industry leader. Data indicates that nearly 70% of trackers sold in late 2024 were AirTag devices.

Pricing and Availability

Despite the hardware upgrades, Apple has maintained its original pricing strategy. A single AirTag remains priced at $29, while a four-pack is available for $99. Both options continue to include the company’s free personalized engraving service.
