Nintendo confirmed a widespread price increase for its original Switch hardware lineup, effective August 3. The company cites shifting “market conditions” as the primary driver for this decision, a move widely interpreted as a direct response to the latest round of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
Impacted Hardware and Accessories
The upcoming price adjustments affect a broad spectrum of the company’s ecosystem. Consumers should expect higher costs for the following devices:
- Nintendo Switch (Original Model)
- Nintendo Switch – OLED Model
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Select Nintendo Switch accessories
- Select amiibo figures
- Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo
- Specific Nintendo Switch 2 accessories
While the company has yet to disclose specific retail price points, the original Switch currently retails at $299.99, with the OLED model positioned at $349.99. Nintendo has officially announced these changes following a period of fiscal review.
Tariffs and Production Challenges
Nintendo previously mitigated trade risks by shifting the bulk of its manufacturing from China to Vietnam. However, recent modifications to reciprocal tariffs now encompass goods produced in Vietnam, effectively neutralizing the company’s previous strategy to avoid heavy taxation.
Future Outlook for Switch 2
Despite the current hikes, the flagship Switch 2 console—which has already reached 5.82 million units sold since its June 5 debut—will maintain its $450 price point for the time being. According to the company’s fiscal first-quarter earnings report, software titles and Nintendo Switch Online memberships are also excluded from this immediate increase.
However, Nintendo cautioned that the current stability may be temporary. “Pricing for the Switch 2 system, as well as digital and physical games, will remain unchanged at this time,” the company stated. “Please note that further price adjustments may be necessary in the future.”
