TikTok has officially confirmed it is testing a new messaging feature called “bulletin boards.” This tool enables creators and brands to broadcast one-to-many public messages directly to their followers, mirroring the functionality of Instagram’s “broadcast channels” which debuted in 2023.

How TikTok Bulletin Boards Work

The feature functions as a streamlined communication channel. Only the account owner holds the privilege to post updates, while followers are restricted to engaging via emoji reactions. The platform supports a variety of media formats, including text, images, and videos, offering a more versatile experience than standard feed posts.

The feature was initially identified by a Threads user, Christina Garnett, sparking discussions on how this will change creator-fan dynamics.

Strategic Engagement for Creators and Brands

Bulletin boards are designed to foster deeper connections by moving away from the algorithmic uncertainty of the main feed. Instead of relying solely on Stories or standard videos, creators can use these boards to share behind-the-scenes content, direct updates, and promotional material that reaches followers more reliably.

Early access to this testing phase includes high-profile entities such as People magazine, the Jonas Brothers, and Paris Saint-Germain F.C.

The Evolution of Social Media Features

The emergence of bulletin boards marks yet another instance of social platforms adopting successful mechanics from competitors. This cycle of feature integration has become standard in the industry; TikTok previously launched Stories and expanded photo support in 2022 to challenge Instagram, while Instagram famously pivoted to short-form video with Reels in 2020 to counter TikTok’s dominance.

As the feature remains in the testing phase, TikTok has not confirmed a global rollout. It is also highly likely that the platform will introduce additional tools—such as polls—to further align with or surpass the capabilities currently found in Instagram’s broadcast channels.
