Israeli cloud cybersecurity firm Upwind is finalizing a $100 million Series B funding round, pushing its valuation toward the $900 million mark. The company, which specializes in securing cloud infrastructure, continues to attract significant capital as enterprises aggressively seek advanced defense mechanisms against evolving cyber threats.
Strategic Backing and Rapid Growth
The funding round, currently in its final stages, features a consortium of high-profile investors, including Craft Ventures, Greylock, Cyberstarts, Leaders Fund, Omri Casspi’s Sheva Fund, and Penny Jar, the investment vehicle of NBA star Stephen Curry. This financial injection follows a period of rapid expansion for Upwind, which has successfully onboarded dozens of Fortune 500 clients and scaled its workforce to approximately 160 employees.
Scaling Operations and R&D
This latest raise marks a substantial increase from the company’s previous $50 million round in September 2023, which valued the startup at $300 million. Having raised over $77 million to date, Upwind intends to leverage this new capital to accelerate research and development while aggressively hiring. The company plans to add roughly 100 new team members across its offices in Israel, San Francisco, and Iceland.
Addressing Cloud Security Complexity
Upwind was founded by Amiram Shachar, the entrepreneur behind Spot.io—a cloud spend management firm sold to NetApp for $450 million. Capitalizing on the expertise of teams with backgrounds in military intelligence, Upwind addresses the “alert fatigue” common in security operations. The platform claims to reduce threat detection alerts by 90%, allowing security teams to focus on actionable, high-priority vulnerabilities.
A Unified Platform Approach
The company’s technology provides a holistic view of cloud security, integrating three critical pillars:
- Cloud Services: Comprehensive vulnerability management and identity security.
- Workloads: Advanced container security with integrated detection and response.
- Apps: API vulnerability management and monitoring.
By consolidating these interrelated functions into a single platform, Upwind provides enterprises with a streamlined approach to managing the complexities of modern cloud environments.
