YouTube announced on Wednesday that a comprehensive redesign of its TV application is scheduled to launch this summer. The update aims to streamline the user experience by simplifying navigation, refining playback controls, and improving overall video quality. Additionally, viewers will gain more intuitive access to channel information, subscription tools, and comment sections.
Enhanced Features for YouTube TV and Mobile
Beyond the TV app overhaul, YouTube is rolling out several functional updates across its ecosystem. For mobile users, the platform is soft-launching “Ask Music,” an AI-driven feature that generates personalized radio stations based on user-provided descriptions. This tool is currently restricted to English-speaking YouTube Premium and YouTube Music subscribers on iOS and Android in select regions.
Customizable Multiview and Playback Upgrades
YouTube TV subscribers are receiving a significant upgrade to the platform’s multiview functionality. Previously limited to preselected sports feeds, users can now customize their own multiview experience by selecting up to four concurrent streams. While the feature currently supports a limited set of non-sports channels, YouTube plans to expand this library in the coming months.
Playback and Creator Tools
The platform is also catering to power users and creators with two specific updates:
- 4x Playback Speed: YouTube Premium subscribers now have access to faster playback options, allowing for 4x speed video consumption.
- Enhanced Creator Engagement: YouTube is broadening access to its voice-note reply feature, enabling channel owners to respond to viewer comments using audio clips.
Note: This report has been updated to clarify that the primary focus of the upcoming release is the redesign of the YouTube TV interface.
