Spotify officially scaled its AI Playlist feature on Thursday, bringing the beta tool to over 40 new markets across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. This strategic expansion marks a significant milestone for the platform, pushing the total number of countries with access to the AI-driven curation tool to nearly 50.
How Spotify’s AI Playlist Works
Currently available in beta for both Android and iOS, the feature allows Premium subscribers to generate highly personalized music collections using natural language prompts. Users can input specific requests—ranging from “workout music to make my ex jealous” to complex combinations involving genres, decades, moods, colors, emojis, or even cinematic characters. The AI engine then analyzes these inputs to curate a bespoke tracklist that matches the specific vibe requested.
A Rapid Global Rollout
The journey for this feature began in April 2024, when Spotify first introduced the tool to Premium listeners in the U.K. and Australia. Following a successful testing phase, the company expanded access to the U.S., Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand approximately five months later.
Key Markets Included in the Expansion
The latest update significantly broadens the tool’s reach, announced via the official Spotify Newsroom. Users in the following regions can now access the feature:
- Asia: Philippines and Singapore.
- Africa: Kenya, Ghana, Liberia, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
- Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, and Jamaica.
- Other regions: Fiji, among several others included in the 40-market rollout.
By integrating generative AI directly into the user experience, Spotify continues to differentiate its Premium offering, moving beyond traditional algorithmic recommendations toward user-defined, intent-based music discovery.
