David S. Goyer, the visionary writer behind Blade, The Dark Knight trilogy, and Foundation, is officially venturing into tokenized storytelling. On Tuesday, Goyer announced the launch of his new sci-fi franchise, Emergence, hosted on the newly unveiled entertainment platform Incention.

Built on Story’s IP blockchain, the platform aims to redefine how intellectual property is developed by allowing fans to contribute directly to narrative arcs and character creation. These contributions are tokenized, ensuring that participants can own digital assets within the story’s ecosystem.

A New Frontier for Collaborative Storytelling

Incention, backed by a16z crypto and led by founders Chase Rosenblatt and Spencer Marell, seeks to solve perceived flaws in traditional IP development. The platform provides a framework for creators to protect their work while inviting community engagement. For Goyer, the appeal lies in the permanence and traceability of the blockchain.

“If you create something, whether it’s a drawing, a short story, or a t-shirt, it tracks your creation throughout all subsequent mediums,” Goyer noted. “It creates a watermark and compensates you forever.”

Inside the “Emergence” Universe

Emergence centers on a cosmic white hole dubbed the “White Fountain,” which scatters powerful, mysterious relics across the galaxy. Goyer and his team have established a “World Bible” to maintain narrative cohesion, detailing the lore of the universe, including advanced human factions known as “The Kind” and various classes of relics.

The universe already features complex characters, such as Captain Skadi—a survivor of a macro-relic incident that transformed her world into glass—and Darius, a galactic service worker. To assist in maintaining the integrity of this expansive world, Incention has deployed an AI agent named “Atlas.” This tool helps collaborators generate ideas, verify lore, and produce visual assets.

Community-Driven Canon

Starting today, the platform is open to writers, artists, and musicians eager to contribute to the official Emergence canon. When community ideas receive sufficient community validation, they are integrated into the official narrative. Participants are rewarded with ownership stakes in the story’s success.

Future features will include voting mechanisms for major plot developments, such as character fates, and a leaderboard to track contributions. While the monetization model for users remains under wraps, Goyer remains optimistic about the project’s potential to democratize entry into the entertainment industry.

“It’s going to lower the barrier and allow people that might not have had a way to break in to get some recognition early on,” said Goyer. “Hopefully, based on my track record, that will create enough initial interest.”
