Amazon has unveiled a transformative AI-driven feature for Fire TV, allowing users to navigate directly to specific movie moments on Prime Video by simply describing them to Alexa. The update, announced on Wednesday, eliminates the need for manual scrubbing through timelines by leveraging advanced generative AI.
How AI Scene Navigation Works
The core objective of this feature is to reduce the friction between deciding what to watch and actually viewing the desired content. By utilizing natural language processing, Alexa can interpret descriptive requests—such as mentioning a specific character, a memorable quote, or an actor’s name—to pinpoint exact timestamps within a film.
According to Amazon, the system functions even if the user omits the movie title. The technology relies on a combination of visual understanding and automated movie captions to parse characters, plot points, and on-screen actions, effectively mapping the narrative structure of the content.
Powered by Amazon Bedrock
This functionality is built upon Amazon Bedrock, the company’s generative AI service. By integrating multiple large language models, including Amazon Nova and Anthropic’s Claude, the platform can process complex queries with high precision.
Users can trigger the feature with commands such as:
- “Jump to the scene in Mamma Mia where Sophie sings ‘Honey Honey’.”
- “Jump to the card scene in Love Actually.”
- “Jump to the scene where Deloris Jordan says ‘a shoe is just a shoe until my son steps into it’.”
Availability and Future Expansion
The feature currently supports thousands of movie titles available through Prime Video, with tens of thousands of scenes already indexed. However, access is restricted to movies included with a Prime membership, as well as titles that have been individually purchased or rented.
While the launch is currently limited to movies, Amazon confirmed plans to scale the technology to include more titles and expand the capability to cover TV series in the near future.
