Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 17e on Monday, bringing premium AI capabilities to its budget-friendly lineup. Starting at $599, the device hits shelves on March 11, featuring significant hardware upgrades and increased base storage.

Performance Meets Apple Intelligence

The iPhone 17e is powered by the A19 chip—the same processor found in the flagship iPhone 17—enabling full support for Apple Intelligence. Apple has doubled the entry-level storage to 256 GB, providing a substantial boost for users over the previous generation.

Connectivity and Design Upgrades

Wireless charging capabilities receive a major overhaul with the introduction of MagSafe and Qi2 support, allowing for up to 15W wireless charging. Beyond power, the device integrates the new C1X cellular modem. According to Apple, this component delivers speeds up to twice as fast as the C1 modem found in the iPhone 16e, while simultaneously improving energy efficiency by 30%.

The handset arrives in three finishes: classic black, white, and a new soft pink option.

Camera and Multimedia Features

Photography enthusiasts will find the 48-megapixel Fusion camera familiar, as it carries over from the 16e. However, the system continues to offer an optical-quality 2x Telephoto zoom, effectively providing two lenses in one for better framing and subject focus.

Video capabilities remain robust, supporting 4K recording with Dolby Vision at 60 fps. Users can also capture Spatial Audio for a fully immersive experience when paired with AirPods or the Apple Vision Pro.

Durability and Environmental Standards

The iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display shielded by the new Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims offers three times the scratch resistance of its predecessor. The device maintains an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and includes essential safety tools like Emergency SOS via satellite, Roadside Assistance, and Find My.

Apple continues its commitment to sustainability, utilizing 30% recycled materials in the device. This includes an enclosure made from 85% recycled aluminum and a battery featuring 100% recycled cobalt.
